A 21-year-old student activist and former pub worker has been selected as the Labour candidate for North West Essex.

Issy Waite, who is currently completing a dissertation in international relations, is passionate about the climate emergency, affordable housing and childcare for young families.

She has also been a CLP (constituency Labour Party) member for nearly two years, campaigned for her local library in Suffolk to remain open, and campaigned against the scrapping of a vital bus route.

Issy, who is the Labour Party's youngest parliamentary candidate, intends to move to the area next month and to challenge incumbent MP Kemi Badenoch.

She said: "I am standing to offer the people of North West Essex a hardworking and committed MP, embedded in the community."
