Saffron Walden's The Flying Symbols are set to represent the town in the finals of the Cambridge Band Competition.

Born from Fairycroft House's All Star Jam during the Covid-19 lockdown, the band has since played numerous gigs and last year released their debut album 'On Our Own'.

They have now also recorded their second album which is in post-production.

The band, who recently won their heat at the Portland Arms Cambridge, are set to perform on June 1 at the Strawberry Fair.

Their manager, Martin Porter, said: "It's been a massive year for my lads and they have taken each challenge with glee and a energy that is second to none, what ever happens at the Junction on April 26, they have nothing else to prove."
