Saffron Walden Rotary Club handed over donations to UK-Aid from their latest collection for Ukraine.

The Rotary Club has held 12 collections on the Common for Ukraine since the conflict started.

This week, the latest donations are being taken to Chernihiv.

Lead Rotarian John Tapscott said: "Every one of these collections has been a success due to the good people of Saffron Walden and its surrounding villages showing that they understood the desperate situation that so many innocent families find themselves in this vicious conflict.

"Their generous donations of food, quality goods and money has been used to buy 16 generators and to help finance UK-Aid's transport costs as they take the donated items to those in need in front line Ukrainian towns and to refugees in Moldova.

"The recipients have been so grateful and appreciative of our support and, through the volunteers transporting the goods and by online media, they have extended their heartfelt thanks, to which we wish to add those of Rotary.

"Well done to everyone who contributed."

The next collection on the Common will take place from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, August 10.

UK-Aid, also known as Felsted Aid for Deprived Children, aims to help sick and underprivileged children - in particular children and families still suffering from the 1986 Chernobyl Disaster.
