Saffron Walden's triennial Fête de la Musique saw musicians perform across 10 venues around the town.

Inspired by the Parisian event of the same name, the fête took place on Sunday, June 23 and featured music in a variety of genres - including choral, punk, rock, folk, soloists, chamber groups, wind band, a steel band, a harpist and Morris men.

Performances took place at the town hall, Market Square, the Almshouses, Bridge End Gardens, The Kings Arms, Jubilee Gardens, Fairycroft House and The Railway Arms - with the Saffron Walden Town Band performing in the grounds of the museum.

Later in the afternoon audiences could catch The Garden Youth Music Project, The Flying Symbols and the Vivettes, with dancing in the market square from the Village Hall Disco Society in the evening.

There were 620 individual musicians taking part in the day, with an 'organ extravaganza' at St Mary's Church and Saffron Recorder Consort performing at Hart's Books.

A spokeswoman for Saffron Walden Arts Trust, which organised the event, said: "It was a really joyful day.

"Everybody was having a great time and enjoying the music at all the different venues. Each venue had its own character.

"For the first time the church took part and they had five different organists playing. It was a haven of tranquillity.
