A new electric train will be launched at Audley End Miniature Railway this summer, to mark the attraction's 60th anniversary.

The train, which was built bespoke by The Steam Workshop, is the first new-build commercial electric locomotive for a narrow-gauge line in the country, and is the first new train at Audley End in 40 years.

Visitors can attend the launch on Saturday, July 20, where Audley End will also be launching their new Railway Racers.

These pedal go-karts can be used by children aged three to eight to race around the woodland track.

The Honourable Amanda Murray, who runs Audley End Miniature Railway, said: "Our 60th anniversary is the perfect time to launch our new electric train.

"As we celebrate this enormous milestone the railway will connect our heritage with the future of our attraction. This summer we have so much in store for our visitors..."

The Enchanted Summer Adventure programme runs from Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, September 1.

Every Friday over the summer Audley End will play host to some special guests - with a chance to meet roaming dragons and even a unicorn.

On each day during the summer, Audley End's resident explorers will set visitors off on their train journey from the station to discover the mythical creatures living in the woods.

Along the way, visitors can keep their eyes peeled to see if they can spot the golden dragon's egg.

After hopping off the train at Woodland Station, visitors can stroll through the trees of the Fulfen Forest to the Craft Lodge, where they can decorate their own unicorn or dragon mask.
