Eighteen members, including chairman Jacqui Portway and membership secretary Peter Riding, visited the Saffron Walden Almshouses on Abbey Lane on Saturday, July 27.

"It was also great to hear about their plans to replace the Primes Close Bungalows that face onto Park Road with a plan that will create new, accessible accommodation."

Gary Hyams, chair of Saffron Walden Almshouses, added: "It's great to have such an historic past, but it's what we can do today and tomorrow for our residents that matters most."
