How would you best describe your job or role in the community?

I support 121 parishes in north-west Essex and their vicars to serve their communities, showing them the love of God.

How long have you lived in Essex?

Eight years, but it’s flown by.

What would you do if you were mayor for a day?

Try to find a good reason for our communities to celebrate together. We’re always at our best when we come together and recognise the good around us.

What is your favourite landmark on your patch?

The door at Hadstock church – allegedly the oldest door still in use in England. Imagine what that door has seen pass through it over the past 1,000 years.

What is your favourite café in north-west Essex?

The National Trust kiosk in the middle of Hatfield Forest – a great place to pause in the middle of a lovely walk.

Which shops do you rely on in north-west Essex?

I’m not much of a shopaholic, but for the sake of my family, anywhere that sells delicious gluten-free cakes!

What is your favourite place to go and eat in the area?

The Blue Egg in Great Bardfield – great food sourced locally.

What is a perfect day in north-west Essex for you?

A bike ride around the lanes. In 2019, I cycled over 150 miles around my patch visiting 58 churches along the way as part of the ‘Ride & Stride’ weekend. There are lots more lanes I have yet to explore.

Which places in north-west Essex would you recommend to visitors?

Any one of our beautiful churches – preferably on a Sunday! They are filled with real gems (the people, not the stones).

Who is your north-west Essex hero?

All the clergy and churchwardens – particularly in the past 18 months when they’ve done a fantastic job reaching out to their communities. They’re always going above and beyond.

What do you most love about north-west Essex?

It has everything – great communities and beautiful countryside within easy access to the rest of the country and the world via our fantastic airport!
