Saffron Walden MP Kemi Badenoch was criticised by the Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle over the EU Law Bill.
Mrs Badenoch, who is business and trade secretary, answered an urgent question on the Government's decision to ditch plans to allow thousands of EU-inherited laws to expire by the end of the year.
The question specifically addressed Ms Badenoch's failure to announce this in the Commons before writing about it in a newspaper.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle asked "Who do you think you're speaking to?" before adding "I am not going to be spoken to by a secretary of state who is absolutely not accepting my ruling."
Mrs Badenoch replied: "I apologise. What I was trying to say was that I am very sorry that I did not meet the standards of which you would expect of secretaries of state.

"What I have been trying to do is make sure that I provide as much clarity as possible. I'm actually very pleased to be coming to the house to speak on this issue.
"I have written ministerial statements to explain that yesterday we tabled an amendment to the Retained EU Law Bill that amends the operation of the sunset in clause one of the bill.
"This is a technical change, it introduces a schedule to the bill of retained EU law that will be revoked on December 31, 2023."
Mrs Badenoch has been approached for comment.
