Members of Saffron Walden Mencap Society have recently enjoyed some "wonderful" experiences thanks to a local lavender farm.

Finchingfield Lavender is run by Julia and Ben Dimmock, who eight years ago took on the project to create a lavender farm and camping site.

The farm is a place of outstanding natural beauty, which enables visitors to bask in the surroundings.

Ben is treasurer of Saffron Walden Mencap Society, while Julia is a long-term supporter and developer of the society's website.

The couple donated a night's stay in their two glamping tents for members of the society, and also hosted the annual Saffron Walden Mencap Society barbecue, which was attended by approximately 60 members.

A week before the barbecue, five members of the society's 'Go With Our Flow' project, along with two companions, also experienced a night at the lavender farm under the stars.

Activities included lavender picking and the creation of beautiful lavender wreaths to take home.

Patrick Draper, chair of Saffron Walden Mencap Society, said: "It was a wonderful day and one of the highlights in our events calendar.

"The weather was glorious and everyone had a very enjoyable time."

Saffron Walden Mencap Society supports people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, affiliated with national charity Royal Mencap.
