Uttlesford Citizens Advice is offering support for the move to Universal Credit, as tax credits come to an end.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has started sending out Universal Credit migration notices, explaining what people need to do and by when.

Kate Robson, CEO of Uttlesford Citizens Advice, said: "We are worried that people will assume they will be moved across to Universal Credit automatically, but this is not the case.

"When you receive your letter from DWP it’s important to act quickly and claim Universal Credit by the deadline you are given, otherwise your benefits will stop and you may end up worse off.

"But, beware of being too organised! Don’t be tempted to make a claim for Universal Credit before you receive your written notice.

"If you do this you will not receive protected entitlement and could be disadvantaged financially."
