Reverend Dr Hilary Walker, who worships at St Mary's Church in Saffron Walden, has been ordained as Deacon at Chelmsford Cathedral for the Saffron Walden and Villages Team Ministry.
She was ordained by the Rt Rev'd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford, on Sunday, September 10, alongside other deacons.
Hilary initially trained as a teacher, then became a counsellor specialising in teenagers - completing a PhD in her spare time on the life of 18th century artisans such as butchers, bakers and candlestick makers, focusing on Saffron Walden.
