Young writers from Creative Walden's Writers Room celebrated the release of their work at Hart's Books.

Lily Worboyes, 13, read from her Greek mythology-inspired story Tartarus' Box, and her peers from Writers Room recited poems from their third anthology, published by Creative Walden.

Lily's book was inspired by her grandmother, who used to read Lily the Greek myths when she was little.

Writers Room was started by Paul Bellany in 2017, and is based at Fairycroft House in Saffron Walden.

Paul said: "So many of them realise that writing from the heart has a way of easing their troubles and so we get these incredibly striking works of deep emotion and authenticity."

Alice Bromell, who began as a young writer and is now a tutor, gave a moving tribute to the children's parents, including Lily's mum Laura Worboyes.

Lily suffers from the debilitating condition SPD, which causes a barrage of sensory input with no effective filter.

Last year, she and her mum Laura climbed Scafell Pike and raised over £2,000 for Writers Room.

Alice thanked the parents for "wholeheartedly supporting" what Writers Room is aiming to do, in particular their work with children who have their own challenges in life.

Writers Room sessions operate during term time, and give children the chance to develop their own ideas and projects.
