Debden's village beacon was lit at 9.15pm on Thursday, June 6 to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Debden Parish Council and the Debden Branch Royal British Legion organised the proceedings on Debden recreation ground, which attracted a substantial crowd.
Resident Ben Diggins, assisted by Robert Cooper, who had crafted the metal basket, had the honour of lighting the beacon.
This beacon was initially kindled to celebrate the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Cllr April Gardner, representing Debden Parish Council, initiated the proceedings and gave details on the success and sacrifices of Operation Overlord.
The British Legion's Andy Pearce then recited The Exhortation.
During the beacon's lighting, Richard Cawte, a professional toastmaster and standard bearer, reverently read the National Tribute.
Following two minutes of silence, district Cllr Stewart Luck paid tribute with the Kohima Epitaph.
The Rapid Relief Team, which supports community and fundraising events in the area, provided refreshments.
Celebrations in Debden continued on Saturday, June 8 with a Barn Dance at Broctons Farm, featuring a fish and chip supper, the Giddy Up bar, and dancing to the renowned Ceilidh Band, Frog on a Bike.
