North West Essex Green Party candidate Edward Gildea is calling for "radical change" in his general election campaign.

Mr Gildea pointed to the recent wet weather, caused by an overheated ocean, as evidence that change is needed.

He said: "Radical change is needed at every level: funding to address poverty, especially rural poverty, our broken NHS, our schools, social care and farming.

"I refuse to join the tedious horse-trading around taxes and tax incentives. I want to revive the Robin Hood principle of taxation: take from the rich to give to the poor!

"Removing standing charges on water and gas bills, controlling rents, insulating homes, licensing landlords, removing no fault evictions, cheap community energy and transport… we have dozens of radical ideas to fight the cost of living and make your lives easier."

Mr Gildea said there was "more at stake" than voting out the Conservatives, saying: "The next government needs to be told that the public takes damage to our environment, social justice and our children’s future seriously.

"Voting Green is your chance to send that message. "

Other candidates running in the election are Kemi Badenoch (Conservatives), Erik Bonino (independent), Andrew David Green (independent), Niko Omilana (independent), Smita Rajesh (Liberal Democrat) and Issy Waite (Labour).
