Work is under way to reduce the noise impact of an electricity substation at the Mortimer's Gate development in Saffron Walden.
The homes at the development in Ashdon Road were completed in 2019, and were constructed around a pre-existing industrial substation.
The wooden acoustic fence around the substation is not substantial enough to mitigate the noise level, so Uttlesford District Council is working with UK Power Networks to find the best way to reduce noise further.
UK Power Networks recently started preparation work on site, and the first step will be to lay the foundation for a purpose-built metal-framed acoustic enclosure that will be installed around the transformer - hopefully greatly reducing the noise.

This should be delivered in September, and the work is expected to be complete by October.
Cllr Petrina Lees, leader of Uttlesford District Council, said: "We have worked closely with UK Power Networks to ensure this important work is done without delay and that, when complete, it will noticeably reduce the noise impacts from the substation.
"I’m also pleased to say that we are in the final stages in securing an agreement with Bloor Homes who have committed to making a substantial contribution to the cost of the works."
